Jim Writes and Directs His First Film.
October 3, 2008 - It started with an idea. My brilliant friend Tracy Littlejohn thought it was time to put fun back into the process of creating new work. So she gathered a bunch of people she knew from The Actors’ Network and I was lucky enough to be included.
The group gathered on October 3rd armed with ideas, scripts and outlines for short films we wanted to create, with the idea of shooting our film the next day. We read them all and I was fortunate enough to have my idea chosen. I got drafted into directing it, we were all given our assignments to pull together props, costumes and equipment for the next day and we dispersed. I spent the night pulling together the things I would need and creating a shot list. (This was no easy task for someone who doesn’t know what he is doing. My thanks to the Internet for having information on this.)
The next day we gathered at 8:00 AM and began dressing our set and getting ready to shoot. Now, of course, I couldn’t pick a simple story with a few shots. I decided to do a card game which of course had more nightmarish little pick-up shots than an MTV video. However, our director of photography was up to the challenge and we had a pretty quick and uneventful shoot.
Collaboraters on this endeavor in addition to myself were Gerald Brodin, Tiffany Janeen, C.J. Hammel, Paula Price, Tom Katsis, Douglas Dickerman and of course, our leader Tracy Littlejohn. Big thanks go out to Tom Katsis and his wife Waltona Manion for letting us shoot in their house.
Look for the completed project soon posted somewhere on the Internet as soon as we get it edited.
